The Poston Communications team recently donned athletic gear in the chilly Florida weather to support Girls on the Run, a nonprofit that encourages girls to be bold, strong and healthy. The Dec. 8 event featured volunteers running alongside teams of young girls running, for some, their first 5K. The 5K is the culmination of each season’s lessons in which the girls learn to believe in themselves and understand that they define their future. This 5K is a tangible goal and by completing it, the girls can work together as a team and celebrate the life lessons they learned throughout the program.
Girls on the Run’s values and mission connect with Poston Communications’ all-female Orlando office. Poston account executive, Erin Charles is an active member of the Girls on the Run Orlando Chapter, where she donates her time assisting the Communications Committee with pro bono public relations work. Charles is an avid runner, and the organization’s goals resonate with her. She first learned of the organization when she was in high school and now that she is a professional, she loves knowing that her efforts help hundreds of girls on their journey to self-awareness, body positivity and living an emotionally and physically healthy lifestyle.
The day was truly an inspiring one. There were numerous companies and volunteers throughout the community cheering on the girls, and the positivity was felt throughout the day. Mothers, fathers, coaches, volunteers, friends and more gathered around to encourage the girls to achieve their goal and to never give up. The message was clear:Nothing is impossible when you believe in yourself and give it your all.
