Monica Smith

Monica Smith works with our media relations and content teams to achieve bottom-line focused results. She serves as senior-level counsel to our clients and guides our team leaders in cultivating and teaching all members of our agency. Throughout her 20-plus-year career, she has worked with professionals across highly regulated industries.

Monica also leads Poston Communications’ Crisis Communications and Litigation PR division, which is recognized by Chambers and Partners as one of the top 20 crisis firms in the U.S., with rankings in its Litigation Support and Crisis & Risk Management guides. The team has guided clients through challenges including employee misconduct, financial fraud, sexual abuse in the church, cybersecurity breaches, and a number of leadership and succession planning challenges. Leveraging media relations to support legal strategies, the team serves as communications counsel on cases before the United States Supreme Court, as well as state and local courts.

Coaching CEOs and company / firm management on issues related to leadership, succession planning and communications, Monica helps them connect with their partners, employees and clients on matters related to change, growth and crisis. Though they span industries, her clients all have one common factor: strong leaders who are excited to guide their organizations in a positive direction despite the stressful issues at hand.

Monica began her career working in a global law firm. She earned her undergraduate degree from Stetson University.

Monica lives in Columbia, South Carolina. She and her husband are the proud parents of a middle-school aged son, and most of their free time is spent cheering him on at various sporting events.
