CEO & General Counsel Dave Poston, Esq. was quoted in an Oct. 6, 2021 Law360 article about acquisition activity in the Georgia market. According to the Law360 Pulse law firm combination tracker, mergers and acquisitions in 2021 have been down in Georgia recently. Of three combinations that have occurred, two are examples of outside firms acquiring small local law firms in Atlanta, and the third is an Atlanta law firm’s acquisition of a small New Jersey firm.
According to Poston in a recent interview with Law360, the sluggish movement isn’t necessarily reflective of outside law firms’ interest in the Peach State.
“I’d say pretty much every [large] firm we know has a standing order to look out for firms, practice groups or solos to acquire,” Poston said.
He says there has been “a lot of activity” in the Georgia merger space over the last decade, meaning those willing to be acquired have in many cases already found or considered a merger partner.
Atlanta is an attractive market for large law firms, but at present the general sentiment is that firms do not want to be acquired.
