Carisa Turner serves as a public relations adviser and communication counselor to clients—helping organizations build trust, confidence, understanding and loyalty with stakeholders, promote and protect their brand and reputation, manage issues and crisis situations, and strengthen their voice and impact in the marketplace.
As a communicator, Carisa is passionate about aligning and amplifying the voices of leaders and organizations, whether to lead and navigate change, survive a crisis and rebuild credibility, or drive clarity and energy around an organization’s vision, purpose, and perspective. Throughout her 14-year career, she has counseled organizations and their leadership on public relations planning, strategic messaging, media relations, crisis communications, issues management, leadership communication, public outreach, stakeholder relations, change management, and communications coaching.
Carisa has supported several leaders in communication strategy, media training, message development, speechwriting, and public speaking and has helped manage numerous crisis situations, ranging from severe weather events to water plant quality issues to public outcry over a land development project to the high-profile arrest of a sitting elected official. She has led several award-winning projects and campaigns, including one that won PRSA Georgia’s “Best of Phoenix” award in 2019 for a program that guided a publicly funded nonprofit through a highly visible reputational crisis (during a large campaign season) and successfully rebuilt the organization’s brand credibility and understanding with key audiences, which ultimately resulted in increased public funding the following year.
Her career began in public and government affairs for The Trust for Public Land, a national land conservation nonprofit, where she supported PR and legislative efforts for the Florida office. From there, since moving back to the Atlanta region, she has held PR, media relations, community relations, marketing, and internal communications positions with a variety of public, private, and nonprofit organizations, including Burson Cohn & Wolfe (agency), Woodruff Arts Center (arts and entertainment), CBRE (commercial real estate), City of Roswell (government), Roswell Inc (economic development), and Randstad (HR/staffing).
A member of PRSA Georgia’s “Forty Under 40” Class of 2019, Carisa is Accredited in Public Relations (APR) and certified as a Public Information Officer (PIO) by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) through a program which trains communicators to lead in crisis and emergency situations.
She has earned national and regional accolades for her work from the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), PRSA Georgia chapter, and the national City-County Communications and Marketing Association (3CMA) and has been a conference speaker for PRSA Georgia, 3CMA, and the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA). She earned a B.A. in both Journalism and Spanish, with a minor in Business Administration, from Mercer University, where she served as news editor of the university newspaper and spent a semester studying in Spain.
Carisa lives in Woodstock, a suburb in Metro Atlanta, with her husband and three young children. Outside the office, she is an award-winning songwriter, independent recording artist, avid reader, and also co-hosts a podcast with her husband.
