Scott Walker is a content and communications leader who brings innovative digital newsroom experience to Poston Communications’ content marketing division.
Drawing on an extensive journalism background, Scott develops strategies that connect quality content with clients’ targeted audiences on multiple platforms.
Scott has led online and print newsrooms for Alabama Media Group, where he was part of the core team that launched the statewide digital media startup combining Alabama’s largest news website (AL.com) and three metro-area newspapers in 2012. Within three years, online audience activity has grown 20% to more than 1.1 billion page views.
While directing enterprise and investigative reporting at AL.com, Scott created the Alabama Investigative Journalism Lab to encourage audience-focused ways of reporting complex stories in digital media. The collaboration included partnerships with the Center for Investigative Reporting, Birmingham public radio station WBHM and the David Mathews Center for Civic Life.
As managing editor of The Birmingham News, he coordinated college football coverage during four consecutive championship seasons for Alabama and Auburn. He also led presentation and copy editing of The News’ 2007 Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation exposing corruption in Alabama’s two-year college system. Previously, he was an editor, designer and art director at newspapers in Florida and South Carolina.
Scott graduated with honors from the University of Florida with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. He also holds his PMI certification as a Project Management Professional, building on experience leading business initiatives that include the development of mobile news apps and implementation of content management systems and publishing platforms for multiple newspapers.
Outside of the office, Scott enjoys paddling on Lake Lanier with a “recreationally competitive” dragon boat team and exploring the culinary variety of Atlanta’s international communities. He’ll happily join you for bánh mì.
